Wedding Tips- All in my opinion, of course

All weddings are beautiful....however, those getting married in castles in London and at a vineyard in California have a bit of an advantage...the locations are stunning and the budgets are to match. We all can't have zillion dollar weddings, but there are ways to get unique wedding pictures with high style appeal, even on a realistic budget. Here are some easy ways that anyone can take into consideration when planning a wedding to make their album as beautiful and interesting as possible:

1. Getting ready...these can be stunning and emotion filled images from the moments leading to your ceremony. Think about where you will be getting on your dress...is it in the church basement? Your kitchen? This can have a huge impact on the style of your images. It is harder to get amazing images when boxes of Cheerios are your backdrop. Consider a friend's place with big windows and lots of space, or perhaps a trendy hotel room.

2. The ceremony. You may have lots of choice to where you will get married, or you may desire to wed in your community church you have attended forever. Every minister is different: ask about photography rules and how you will be standing during the ceremony. It is hard to get teary-eyed images if I'm not allowed to take pictures during the vows or if your back is to the congregation the entire time. Perhaps the photographer is not allowed stand behind a certain line...it may make close-ups impossible. If your ceremony pictures are very important to you, ask about everything and check out a lot of different venues. It is also great to incorporate your own ideas or unique customs. Remember you can make the ceremony uniquely yours with one 'different' idea.

3. Transportation- A cool old car or fantastic convertible can make for great picture opportunities. Ask around to family and friends to borrow...it can also save you lots of money! Cool coloured antique cars can really give your wedding a trendy look.

4. Timeline- Make sure you leave a enough time for everything, taking into consideration Aunt Molly after the ceremony with her 20 minute hugs. It takes time to get to different locations for pictures and there is nothing worse then leaving yourself 20 minutes for wedding photography.

5. Just be you!! Don't be afraid to laugh, cry, snuggle, pout, boogie the night away. You don't have to look "perfect" in every picture. When you look back at the images where there is an emotion involved, you will be brought back to feelings of your day immediately and isn't that what photojournalism is all about?

6. It's all in the details! Colorful details for your reception are so much fun to photograph. Bright colours always make an album look interesting and funky. I love bright colors and good decorating for a reception. Spend a little extra time thinking up ways you can decorate your venue with out spending a lot of money and the results will be worth it. You can make a boring venue look like a million bucks with a little creativity!

7. The DJ..... truthfully they can make or break your reception. Some spend the entire evening talking into the mic, others play music only your flower girl wants to dance too. Choose wisely, interview lots. It's your party don't make the mistake of hiring a DJ or band who takes over your reception. There are lots of great ones, just make sure you know what you are getting into!!

8.Consider a wedding planner who make all of this seem stress-less....... no joke....

9. Enjoy your day and make sure it is yours! At my wedding the guests threw the flowers as I was walking INTO the church...not leaving with my husband. I had to laugh cause it was so weird, but it made the ceremony mine! Unique! It doesn't have to be perfect, but it does need to be yours! Have fun and breathe. It goes by pretty quick, if you don't stop and look around, you may miss it :)
